Faction Warfare
Faction Warfare in Space is Hell
Breakdown of Oblivion Rifts, Mining, and Combat Mechanics
Oblivion Rifts are key gameplay events where factions compete for control of high-value resources, primarily Oblivion Cores. These rifts create a dynamic mix of large-scale PvP combat, strategic decision-making, and high-stakes mining.
1. Oblivion Rift Overview
Dynamic Spawns
Rifts spawn randomly across the Star Map.
Global alerts inform all players of the Rift’s location and availability.
Example announcement: “An Oblivion Rift has opened in [System Name]! Deploy your fleet to secure resources!”
Core Purpose of Rifts
Oblivion Core Mining: These rare resources are crucial for upgrading ships and weapons.
PvP Combat Incentive: Players and factions engage in large-scale battles to control the Rift.
Faction Progression: Dominating Rifts gives factions a strategic and economic advantage.
2. Combat to Secure the Rift
Securing a Rift involves intense PvP battles between factions. Here’s how the process works:
2.1 Mobilization and Deployment
Factions must quickly mobilize their fleets upon Rift spawn to reach the system.
Fleet composition is crucial, with Support Ships required for deploying Warp Disruptors to secure the system.
2.2 Warp Disruptor Deployment
Warp Disruptors are used to lock down the Rift system for the deploying faction.
Primary Deployment: Support Ships deploy disruptors with reduced costs and faster activation times.
Fallback Deployment: Other ships can deploy disruptors but at higher costs and slower activation times.
Once activated, the Rift system is secured, preventing enemy reinforcements.
Deployment Type
Resource Cost (Crelyte)
Activation Time
Strategic Value
Support Ships
50
15 minutes
Optimal for efficient deployment.
Other Ships (Fallback)
75
25–30 minutes
Backup, slower but flexible.
2.3 PvP Engagement
Rift battles encourage large-scale PvP combat, with factions vying for control.
Players earn Telemetry for each PvP kill:
Higher rewards for defeating advanced opponents or larger groups.
Incentivizes active and strategic PvP participation.
3. Securing the Rift and Mining Oblivion Cores
Once a faction secures the Rift system, the focus shifts to mining Oblivion Cores.
3.1 Safe Mining Period
After securing the Rift, mining becomes completely safe for the controlling faction.
The faction has 24 hours to extract all Oblivion Cores before the Rift expires.
3.2 Mining Mechanics
Oblivion Cores are found in high-yield deposits scattered within the Rift.
Mining parties must coordinate logistics to transport and store the cores efficiently.
4. Oblivion Core Mechanics
Usage of Oblivion Cores
Ship Upgrades: Enhance attributes like shields, speed, and armor.
Weapon Upgrades: Improve damage, range, and energy efficiency.
Marketplace Trading: Cores can be sold to other players for in-game currency or bartered for valuable items.
Logistical Challenges
While mining itself is safe, factions must organize efficient transport to avoid delays.
Enemies may still ambush outside the Rift, so strategic planning is essential.
5. Purpose and Impact
Faction Engagement
Encourages factions to collaborate and prioritize Rift control.
Adds depth to gameplay by introducing large-scale battles and resource competition.
Player Progression
Oblivion Cores are pivotal for upgrading gear, incentivizing players to participate in Rifts.
Dynamic PvP Incentives
Rifts act as a hub for PvP activity, providing meaningful rewards for skilled players.
Resource Economy
A player-driven economy emerges as Oblivion Cores become highly sought after for upgrades and trade.
Summary
Oblivion Rifts are a cornerstone of the game’s progression and combat systems, combining high-risk, high-reward PvP with safe mining opportunities for the winning faction. Players must work together to secure the Rift through strategic combat, deploy Warp Disruptors, and maximize their rewards during the 24-hour mining phase. The result is a dynamic, competitive environment that drives engagement, faction loyalty, and resource-driven gameplay.
Note on Oblivion Cores and Mercoxium Transition
Oblivion Cores will replace Mercoxium, which was previously collected in Space Misfits - Mayhem. To ensure a smooth transition, all holders of Mercoxium will receive an airdrop of Oblivion Cores. The exact conversion ratio for the airdrop is currently to be determined (TBD).
This change reflects the updated progression and resource system in the game, aligning with the new focus on ship and weapon upgrades. Stay tuned for further announcements regarding the airdrop details and timeline.
